Low tide at Layan Beach on Phuket

Layan Beach is located at the northern end of the huge Bang Tao Bay. Just a few meters off the coast is Koh Tha Island which can easily be reachs walking when the tide is low. Then the shallow bay becomes a picturesque plain of rippled sand with millions of small crabs forming midget sand balls like pieces of modern art.

Because of the shallow water the beach is not really ideal for swimming, but a perfect place for a long walk along the beach. Only at the southern end where it merges into Bang Tao Beach there are some sunchairs and the water is deep enough to swim.
