Nai Harn Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches of Phuket. One kilometer of white sand in a deeply curved bay. Usually here are the highest waves of all the west coast beaches, so it is a favorite place for young surfers but also great for just enjoying the water.
At the southern end of the beach there is a small stream that connects the sea with a salt water lagoon in the back of the beach. As the tide goes up and down this little steam changes its direction and always is a great playground for kids. The sea and the waves heavily change the face of the southern end of the beach within short times. We have seen times with hills of sand up to two meters high that have disappeared completely only a few days later. The bay is always filled with a big number of sailing boats due to the Meridien Phuket Yacht Club at the northern end of the beach. Especially with the sunset in the evening those boats contribute to a very romantic scenery. Maybe this beach is the best place on Phuket to watch the sunset, better than the popular Cape Promthep which usually is very crowded in the evenings. There is just one really disappointing fact: Nai Harn Beach is also a popular place for locals to make barbecue or picnic at the weekend, but unfortunately they seem to have no respect for the environment. As a result the forest in the back of the beach, especially at the more beautiful southern end, is filled with garbage. No idea why this problem is more evident here than anywhere else on the island. |
